Getty Center Opening & Inaugural Year

Community Arts Resources (CARS) produced and programmed eleven festivals for the December 1997 opening and the 1998 inaugural year of the newly opened Getty Museum and Getty Center. Several art projects were commissioned for the event, including giant puppets by Michelle Berne's Celebration Arts based upon a painting by James Ensor, "Getty Art Detective" - a self-guided gallery tour for kids with collectible cards created by Edmon Rodman, site-specific performances on the Getty's arrival plaza steps by choreographer Vicky Marks entitled "Sites Pacific," and "Going to the Ball" – a gallery talk on what to wear at an 18th century ball with costumes developed and offered by UCLA theater Professor Michel Hackett.
