Re:Imagine Garden Grove
Community Arts Resources (CARS) worked with the City of Garden Grove to develop and produce two open streets events that celebrated downtown Garden Grove as the living room of its community and captured the melting pot of cultures found within the city. Thousands of people filled three miles of car-free streets in downtown Garden Grove for Re:Imagine Garden Grove ? A Downtown Open Streets Event. In 2014 and 2015, through multicultural programs and performances, art installations, interactive workshops, a culinary stage, a downtown destinations discount program, food and craft vendors, children's activities and car-free streets for walking and biking, Re:Imagine Garden Grove was a result of a comprehensive approach of production. By combining cultural event programming and engaged community development to spearhead the rebranding of downtown Garden Grove, CARS showcased the cultural diversity of the area and filled the pedestrian-only zones with unique community experiences for all to enjoy.
As the overall strategist and project manager, CARS assembled a top-notch team to complete the full scope of marketing, communications and outreach for this groundbreaking event in Orange County. With the City's goal of "Bringing the Downtown of the Future into the Present", CARS created an identity for the event that allowed Garden Grovers to physically visualize the potential activation and vibrancy of their community. As a grassroots initiative by the City of Garden Grove, CARS continued to engage stakeholders through door-to-door, on-the-ground outreach, hosting community meetings and involving local, community representatives in the planning process. In addition, CARS oversaw the development and implementation of marketing collateral elements, (post cards, posters, flyers, programs, etc.) and ensured the identity's print and digital presence.
Re:Imagine Garden Grove led to the implementaion of a new bicycle/pedestrian path along the abandoned Pacific Electric Right of Way. In addition, the city acknowledges this event as the catalyst for the economic revitalization of Downtown Garden Grove with recent investment by developer, Shaheen Sadeghi, with the Garden Grove Cottage Industries project.
