Two acts, two traditions, one extraordinary night at Grand Performances. 

Insun Park is a Seoul-based mask dancer and practitioner of Gangnyeong Talchum, a centuries-old Korean form of National Intangible Heritage, whose solo work pushes the tradition into urgent contemporary territory, fusing ancient shamanistic ritual with punkish rock and pointed social critique. 

Then Pamyua takes the stage! The Alaska-based ensemble was founded in 1995 by brothers Phillip and Stephen Blanchett, who built their own genre by weaving Inuit drum dance melodies with R&B vocal arrangements and gospel. They call it Inuit Soul Music, and that description barely covers it. The masked dancing, the rhythms, the sheer joy of watching artists who are proud of where they come from is well worth every second spent! We consider this concert to be four hours of free outdoor music that will imprint on your own personal cultural zeitgeist.
