COAST Santa Monica's Open Streets Festival

Client: City of Santa Monica Project

Time Frame: 2015 - Present

Event Dates: June 5, 2016; October 1, 2017

In 2016, Community Arts Resources (CARS) produced the inaugural, COAST, the City of Santa Monica's Open Streets Festival, transforming the streets of Santa Monica into a giant park for a day. Two miles of car-free streets and six zones of activations along the route marked the grand opening of the Colorado Esplanade and connected Santa Monica in a way not experienced before. With the opening of the Metro Expo Line Station at Downtown Santa Monica two weeks prior, over 50,000 locals and visitors walked, biked and skated on parts of Ocean Avenue, Colorado Avenue and Main Street.

COAST returned to Santa Monica in 2017, inviting the local community and visitors from across greater Los Angeles to experience car-free streets in Santa Monica once again. The event included live music and performances, interactive art workshops, food, and more!
